Mission Statement

The Perfect Dog, dedicated to rescuing wonderful homeless or abandoned dogs from over-crowded shelters, is an organization serving the southern Bay Area. The Perfect Dog places non-aggressive dogs into temporary foster homes, where they are socialized, trained, cleaned, and prepared for adoption. Founded in early 2010, The Perfect Dog hopes to raise enough money to open a pet shop where adoptable dogs can be displayed to the public, allowing faster adoptions and therefore making room for more dogs to be rescued from shelters. Ultimately, The Perfect Dog strives to greatly reduce the number of unwanted dogs euthanized in shelters simply due to over-crowding or being deemed unadoptable.

Diana Rapa - Founder/Director

Diana's love for animals started at the ripe age of 3, when she was introduced to a gentle Malamute/Shepherd mix. Ever since then, she has known she could not spend any moment of her life without having a dog by her side. She currently has three dogs of her own, including a shelter rescue who was born deaf and visually impaired. Having trained the dog herself using hand signals, Diana knew she would strive to create a dog rescue some day, educating the public about the importance of responsible breeding, spaying/neutering, and living with a special needs dog. She is currently attending San Jose State University to receive her Bachelor's in Graphic Design, while working full-time as a dog handler where she cares for and has handled up to 30 dogs on her own. Although she loves the dogs she works with, she always felt like she needed to do more to help the community. Diana founded 'The Perfect Dog' in early 2010 in hopes of saving the lives of wonderful dogs from over-crowded shelters, and placing them into permanent, loving homes.

Joshua Austin - Volunteer

Joshua got his first dog in 2006. Since that time, he and his dog, Rex, a black and white Pomeranian, have become almost inseparable. They love taking road trips and have movie nights together. As the two boys aged together, they have added more to their family. Now Joshua has four dogs, three cats, and a hamster. Joshua volunteers for The Perfect Dog as a way to meet new dogs without adding a permanent addition to his household. He loves animals and loves to see dogs saved from the shelter find a new loving family.

Rachelle Boyd - Volunteer

Having always loved animals since before she could walk, Rachelle strives to make the world a better place for those who cannot speak for themselves. She currently has many rescue animals of her own, which her family calls her zoo, and she is an avid advocate for the misunderstood pit bull terrier. She is currently studying biology in school and practicing her dog behavior skills at work as a dog handler. In her spare time, she volunteers at the local wildlife center, caring for a wide variety of sick and injured wildlife. She has always dreamt of opening a rescue to help save so many lives that need to be saving.
